CBT for Adults with ADHD and Related Issues
Attention-deficit disorder (with or without hyperactivity) is commonly viewed as a persistent condition from childhood and through adulthood, though symptoms may vary over time. Adults with ADHD frequently have difficulty remaining focused, staying organized, meeting deadlines, and completing projects. As work-related stress mounts, anxiety often co-occurs with ADHD. Adults with ADHD also frequently report marital and relationship difficulties because partners can become frustrated by inattentiveness or distractibility.
Many of the clinicians at the Southfield Center are trained in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which examines the relationship between thoughts, feelings, and behavior and has been found to be effective in the treatment of anxiety, phobias, and depression. In conjunction with therapeutic techniques, adults with AD/HD may benefit from executive functions coaching to assist in developing strategies for managing everyday demands effectively and reducing the impact of symptoms on occupational and interpersonal functioning.
